Convoy Procedure

  • Trip leader is to call a group meeting prior to start and remind members of convoy procedures.
  • Observe road rules at all times.
  • All vehicles are responsible for the vehicles following when turning off a road or at cross roads.
  • Vehicle leaving the convoy for any reason must wave on remaining convoy and inform "Tail-end Charlie" of intention.
  • Leader to appoint 'Tail-end Charlie'.
  • No vehicle to overtake leader or change position unless an emergency.
  • Keep a safe distance behind vehicle in front at all times.
  • When off road allow vehicle in front to clear crests and hills before following. If you get stuck, get out and stop the vehicle behind you.
  • Whenever possible carry a flag in sand dunes or hilly country.
  • Nominated marshals will regulate traffic on sites designated dangerous - i.e. blind hills and dangerous points.
  • In the event of winching being necessary, the winch operator will automatically become track marshall.
  • The vehicles in the club carrying emergency gear automatically become emergency vehicles and must be given clear passage and right of way.
  • In the event of mishap all NON-emergency vehicles to clear the area to enable the necessary emergency vehicles to approach without obstruction.
  • When winches, snatch straps or tow ropes are being used all persons are to stand well clear of cables or ropes (at least 1.5 lengths in all directions).
  • Drivers are responsible for their passengers and passengers' actions at all times.
  • Where permission has to be sought to enter an area the convoy is to go in as one group and return home as one group.
  • Any drivers not complying with instructions from track marshals and trip leaders will be referred to the Committee for disciplinary action
